What if our classrooms were full of inspired teachers sparking creativity, passion, and learning in their students?
The Hastings Public Schools Foundation (HPSF) was founded by our community to provide funds for innovative learning opportunities not available through current public school funding. "What If" grants given to educators by the Foundation invest in our students by allowing their teachers a chance to bring their ideas and dreams into reality.
Starting with the seemingly impossible goal of a one million dollar endowment, countless volunteers and donors worked together to make the HPSF a reality.
The first grants were delivered with trumpets and fanfare to the successful teachers in the fall of 2004.
We continue to stretch our goals of increasing the endowment and collecting additional funds so we can have an even bigger impact on education for generations to come. From planning a Garden Tour to creating a scholarship fund, Foundation supporters continue to help the Foundation grow by implementing their imaginative fundraising and partnership ideas.

We Both Read
Learning does not end in the classroom. Family involvement in a child's education is critical to their achievement. This "What If..." grant provided for district-wide 2nd grade teachers to receive a 40-book set of "We Both Read" books, which will benefit all district second graders. These books feature a unique format designed for children to take turns reading with their parents. The left hand page contains more sophisticated text for the parent to read while the right hand pages are written in larger font at specific early reading levels. Students have access to books at their specific reading levels. It is known that students read more fluently with role models and reading becomes more enjoyable. They also gain confidence in their own reading skills.
